I used to work in an office in a big east coast university. In my first days there my work mates tested me several times with the question “do you watch Jon Stewart?” They were also strangely interested in whether I went to church or not. This was back in the days when “24” was a very popular TV show. They were quick to advise me that they couldn’t watch “24” because it was on Fox. Oh, and the official car of this office was the grey Suburu. They were such a sanctimonious bunch.

dear duck,

I come from a different time, and place.

I grew up on military bases, and then in the NYC ‘tri-state area’, before my military enlistment, when my draft number was ‘3’. So that whole NY/CT/NJ yiddishke thing was not lost on me, both in high school and after school.
