I also could see Ryan stepping down and resigning from the House. If he thinks (mistakenly) that Trump will not win in November, he may be more about running himself in 2020 and fear hurting himself by being tied to Trump’s loss. Of course, I don’t agree with that, but being a RINO that may be his thinking. And he also probably realizes that if he does not support Trump, he will be increasing his risk of losing the primary and, if Trump does win, of not being reelected Speaker in the next Congress (the vote for that will be in January and if Trump has been elected president, I could see a lot of House Republicans pushing for a new Speaker who has not been an outspoken opponent of his).

I agree. Ryan is positioning himself for a later date. Everyone knows he has reservations about Trump. Now he can support him, and later if things go south, he can say I told you so, and I did it for the party. So either way he looks good.
