A 2013 Texas fertilizer plant explosion that wounded 200 and killed 15 — 12 of whom were first responders — was caused by an act of arson, investigators announced Wednesday. The State Fire Marshals deemed the April 2013 fire a "criminal act" and said it was intentional.

No arrests have been made, although officials said they were on "the right track." The fire was ruled incendiary after authorities conducted over 400 interviews.

The night of the explosion, a fire had broken out at the West Fertilizer Co. in the town of West, Texas. Twenty minutes later, the plant exploded with such force that it actually caused a magnitude 2.1-earthquake.

"It was like a nuclear bomb went off," West Mayor Tommy Muska told CNN. Jeva Lange

That was an amazing explosion. I wouldn’t doubt if it was a half kiloton explosion.

I doubt it... probably some idiot with a grudge. Kind of an odd place for terrorism... be curious how they know it was deliberately set.

We’re just learning this now because they did not want to admit it due to the obvious implication of terrorism. It took them 3 years to figure out how to spin it as something other than terrorism.

How horrible. If it’s terrorism, they need to be treated accordingly. Whoever would do such a thing needs to get the death penalty.

West is just a small Czech farming community, it was where my mother was born and raised it’s not a likely site someone would pick for terrorism I understand there is a large immigrant Mexican population there now perhaps it’s some kind of Feud.

Or, maybe someone consider stealing the fertilizer for a terrorist act, and decided it was just easier to blow it up in place.

More muzzies and the ROP?
Obama wants to import 100,000 before he’s out of office.
Expect daily car bombings, knifing attacks, rapes, beheadings in America- just like in Europe.

You make a good point I hadn’t thought of that. the town is fairly close to I-35 South so maybe they thought it would do something there too, I don’t know.

No we are just learning this because the civil suits are settled so the gun mint and democrat trial lawyers got a pot of money.

Texas has a “responsible third party” law that permits allocation of fault on John Doe criminal defendants.

If the matter had not settled, the civil defendants could put a line apportioning blame on the arsonists, which would greatly lesson their civil liability.

Incredibly, it wasn’t even close to a half kiloton

Official estimate is 30-50 tons of fertilizer exploded. That’s equal to about 10-20 tons of TNT.

Imagine a kiloton or even a megaton...
