Licensed to Carry: Handguns in Texas
NY Times ^ | 05-11-2016 | MANNY FERNANDEZ

Texas has quietly reached a milestone: More than a million residents now have handgun licenses, one of the biggest citizenries in the country authorized to carry concealed and unconcealed firearms. Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, is one of them, as is the state’s only living former Democratic governor, Mark W. White Jr. These license holders, just 3.7 percent of the state’s 27 million residents, are a symbol of the nation’s culture wars and a subject of scrutiny, state pride, controversy and curiosity.

Unless it’s specifically prohibited in the law, it’s permitted. And there is no specific prohibition against carrying more than one firearm.

My instructor pointed that out in the class I took. It was debated during the legislative process and was shot down, so to speak.

The law here in IL is actually not too bad, all things considered. It could be better, and that’s being worked on.

If you’ve moved to TX as a “permanent” resident (the definition of “permanent” is usually codified in each state), it’s likely you need a TX resident carry license and a non-resident FL license now. It would be worth a trip to http://handgunlaw.us to research it against your specific circumstances.

Licensing and registration leads to confiscation. The 2nd Amendment is the only permit anyone actually needs. Free men do not ask permission to exercise God given rights. Texas must not be a free state.

I have been able to successfully derail many anti-gunners with the following question:

In a normal working society, should the citizen fear the criminal, or the criminal fear the citizen?

Translation:

Texas, who claims to be the state best suited for freedom-lovers in the US, publicly acknowledges that it too ignores the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and forces its citizens to forgo one of their “inalienable rights” and seek written permission from the government before they are permitted to possess a firearm.

“Shall Not Be Infringed” is such an outmoded concept, after all.

Um, no. No permit required to purchase or possess here in Texas, only to carry. And our governor has said that he will sign permitless carry as soon as the Legislature sends him such a bill. He has already signed the open carry with a permit bill.

No permit required for open or concealed carry of long arms, though. Nor is a permit required to purchase one.

"...In Texas, if you take the shooting test with a revolver, you couldn’t carry a semi-auto....

BUT, if you qualify with a semi, you are considered competent by the state of TX to carry either a semi or a revolver.

Odd, that.

"...I bet that Chicago out-guns all of Texas....

I'd reframe that sentence to say "Chicago out-kills all of Texas".

Translation: CCW holders in Texas number around the 4th or 5th largest army in the world.

I like that translation. I’ve lived outside a rural Texas town for 13 years now and can’t believe I’d ever need to carry here although I see others do.
I walked into the Valero convenience store the one day and noticed a pick up with a child in a car seat and the truck was running and saw the guy in the store and asked him about it. (who was open carrying.) I was blown away because he acted like he’d be superman and save the day if someone jumped in his truck and took off.
Afterwards, I thought are you crazy, you are gonna shoot at a truck with your kid in it. I was blown away.

I’m spent my 1st 46 years outside of 4 yrs military in the inner city ghettoes but even here in rural Texas I even lock my door when I pump gas next to it. I’d never ever think of leaving my truck running and run into a store, unless a full grown adult was sitting in the passenger seat with AC

“New York reload?”

A second backup gun. Usually somewhat smaller. Small revolvers like a J-frame are popular. Its faster than trying to reload your original weapon.

Out-kills and out-maims. Hence out-guns.

Texas: 5.0 murders per 100,000 (2010).

Chicago: 15.2 murders per 100,000 (2010)

...2014 Texas murders > 2 x Chicago murders.
***********************************
Murders or deaths by firearms?

The latter would include accidents, suicides, thugs shot by LEOs/other thugs/homeowners/etc., as well as LEOs and innocent victims shot by thugs; plus actual murders (planned or domestic violence).

That changed in revised law for open carry. Now qualify with any pistol and carry any pistol.
