i think you are a bit confused, but so are many others.
Mitt’s Mormon, Beck’s Mormon, some of their candidate’s strongest support was in strong Mormon states which ran caucuses instead of secret ballots. (Top Mormon state - Utah, Cruz just under 70% in caucuses. 2nd most Mormon state Wyoming, Cruz 66% in caucuses. 3rd most Mormon state, Idaho, Cruz led at 45% but that was a primary, so it may be more reflective of true rank and file wishes.)
Just like Catholics turned out for Kennedy in 1960, Mormons turned out for Cruz in 2016. Particularly when they were being watched.
