Dan Quayle thinks Donald Trump is a “more qualified” candidate than Hillary Clinton and the Republican Party should rally around him.

The former vice president, who served under George H.W. Bush, appeared on NBC’s Today show Thursday and said that Trump was more qualified than Clinton in this particular election because people want an outsider.

“Potatoe is an older but still correct spelling of the word more commonly word spelled potato. It turns out that Dan Quail and the young student were both correct in there spellings. The e at the end of potatoe was largely dropped by the end of the 20th century.”

Umm, is there an old spelling of "Quayle" or "their" which makes this correct?

"I was and still am a proud potatoEhead. That nomination was rigged for GWB, with massive cash infusions and insider support. Dan Quayle is an absolute scholar and class act with foreign affairs. He NEVER embarrassed the US or demonstrated ignorance of the issues, either as a US Senator or as VP. This morning on Today, he was SO IMPRESSIVE that the hosts asked him to come back often. How quickly the elite forget. They held Quayle up to ridicule, took things out of context, made fun of his lovely and accomplished wife. Dan Quayle as Secretary of State could be a real good idea. He knows the historical context of the mess US policy has made of the world."

Grania thank you I couldn't have said it myself.

They had to destroy this clean cut mid-westerner and his lovely wife. They knew he was a talent, and had the image. G-d Forbid the GOP have their own handsome JFK if you will. And it is a damn shame what talent and what a great POTUS he would have been, our country lost so much, what a waste. And worse they did it again, they "Quayled" Sarah Palin, same MO and same talent.

And the Vichy Republicans that helped? Pox on your house as well...

"I would love to see Trump restore Quayle to a proper position"

Dan Quayle and Sarah Palin - two very competent people who were savaged by the Drive-by media for the sake of the Democraps.

Quayle for SOS and Palin for Interior/Energy/EPA

I forget why it even mattered how he spelled potato, that would only be a political issue in Idaho anyway.

To the enemedia-e and the DC, NYC, LA establishment-e, Dan Quayle was just another lowly hick from fly-over, mid-west Indiana. He would never be embraced by the sophisticated Beltway political barons and scribes.

“Quayle’s only failure was being a policy wonk who could not voice his policies well enough to silence the vitriolic critics who wanted to make fun of his hair.”

Quayle was widely, if grudgingly, admired by many liberal-leaning Congressional staffers. I knew more than a few of them in the early 1980s, and Quayle was considered by them to be a serious, albeit somewhat wonkish, expert on both domestic economic policy and national security issues.

I agree with you. I always thought he was ill used by GHW Bush. It was the first time I noticed that family’s callous disregard for their loyal subordinates. Quayle should have been supported and mentored. Instead, Mena partner Clinton came in.

.... but don’t make fun of anyone’s spelling, huh?

Sad thing is I doubt any one of us would have handed that card back to the teacher and told her it was wrong.

“Bill Kristol is a piece of puke.”

I remember when he first slithered onto the scene. I picked up a few issues of Weakly Substandard and read them. National Review was still strong, and The American Spectator was the bad boy on the shelves. I recognized Kristol as a snake then, and never picked him up.

Now, he is in Romney/Ryan/Cruz territory for me. Shoot (figuratively) on sight.

I always liked Quayle.

He was always authentically conservative.

I listened to VP Dan tout Trump, this morning, on one of the cable news shows.

He thinks Trump should pick Ron Portman as VP.
