Nonsense. The heart of Conservatism has always been an "American 1st" mindset and a deep suspicions of foreign entanglements. "Managed Trade" often wrongly call Free Trade, is at heart a Liberal Globalist position. It base on the notion that trade policy can be written, at the US expense, to "mange" economic ebbs and flows world wide and thus promote global stability.

I prefer cuckservatives! That is what they are.
Granted, a conservative argument can be made about Trump, but the intellectuals at NRO are so vitriolic they come across as ridiculous.
I remember back when being conservative included supporting limited government.
They are just finding out that Conservatism does not work for conservatives. But, only for the Chamber of Commerce and their ilk.
Same $hit, different century...
You mean caucus elections?
Sorry but that is incorrect. The heart of Conservatism is limited government, minimal regulations, and freest markets possible. Protectionism is at the heart of a liberal special interest position to benefit union bosses and crony capitalists.

Arguing with terrorists is never the correct approach...
or Trump-hating FReepers?
I appreciate the argument. No sale.
Over the last couple of days I have still been seeing the Cruz folks trash Trump and then deny it was trashing him because “It was the truth!”.
No, it was their version of the truth.
Their candidate won’t man up, and neither will they.
The unity will be built, when Cruz and company say it will, and not until.
When they accept Trump as our nominee, that’s unity.
Let’s pull together and DEFEAT HILLARY.
Couldn’t agree more with the observation. What’s needed at this time is to protect the jobs we have for our citizens, reduce legal immigration and eliminate illegal immigration, and expand the job base in this country for the benefit of American workers! If the Europeans and the Asians want our military help well then, pay for it! If not, defend yourselves! In terms of terror wipe it off the face of the earth wherever you find it. This country is 20 long years and running in need of a barium enema. Let the flushing begin!
“I remember back when being conservative included supporting limited government.”
Me, too. My list was not meant to be all inclusive.
and I would say that the Trump supporters are far more constitutional founding fathers conservative ...then all these other fakes
that’s where I disagree with you “free trade” is not conservatism ....free trade is currently practiced is Progressive/libertarianism
the founding fathers used tariffs extensively... in fact it was the main Federal tax mechanism providing all government revenues of this country for the first hundred years ....
Unfettered by tariffs, “free trade” was a progressive idea promoted by Wilson Woodrow... and it was the reason he put in the progressive income tax as an alternative means to fund the government vs the Tariff system
if you want to argue against tariffs and for unfettered free trade by tariffs argue with the founding fathers and how the Constitution was written originally written
I view conservatism at looking at the original intent of how the government was structured
technically if you want to be a limited government type then technically you would be an anti-federalist as the Constitution was written specifically to take over from the Articles of Confederation
the Constitution specifically expanded and created the Federal Government so a limited government type would actually be anti-federalist and rollback the Constitution and go back to the Articles of Confederation
unfortunately the country found the Articles of Confederation too weak and had to expand and create the federal government with the Constitution and with the Bill of Rights
Sorry but that is incorrect. The heart of Conservatism is limited government, minimal regulations, and freest markets possible. Protectionism is at the heart of a liberal special interest position to benefit union bosses and crony capitalists.
Actually you’re not just wrong you’re very wrong you’re confusing extreme libertarianism which actually evolve in to Anarchy (I.E....no government would ultimately be the most limited government) and conservatism
conservatism basically follows the Goldilocks principle ..( trying to find that balance of not too hot not too cold just right)..... government is a necessary evil you both have to have it in you try to keep it minimized and controlled.. that’s something Libertarians completely forget
never forget the Constitution was created by the founding fathers was an expansion of government not a reduction of government... so you’re stuck saying that conservatives are Anti-Federalists and the Anti Constitution and want to go back to the Articles of Confederation or even go back further to no government....
The reality is conservative sit between less government and more government and that right at the Constitution as originally intended that both granted power to the federal government and limited power to the federal government
don’t confuse conservatism with extreme libertarianism which borders on no government Anarchy
