John McCain Slips in Provision to Draft Women in Defense Bill [With Updates]
Conservative Review ^ | May 12, 2016 | Daniel Horowitz

Pregnant, female, Navy SEALs was something many of us used to joke about as a way of exaggerating the absurd social engineering in the military. Yet, placing women in special operations and direct combat units has now become a reality under the Obama-led Pentagon. Sadly, not only have Republicans like John McCain refused to use their perches on the Armed Services Committees in the House and Senate to block this social engineering, they are now codifying it with a provision that could lead to a mandatory draft of all women. Earlier this week, I noted that the final House version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) contained a provision for the first time ever including young women in the requirement to register for Selective Service. However, this provision was only added because of a strategic mistake of the committee chairman who thought the members would vote down this absurdity. He was just trying to make a point. John McCain, on the other hand, who is chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, deliberately placed that provision in his chairman's mark of the NDAA, according to a Senate staffer.

I am further told by Senate staff that it is unlikely an amendment to strike this provision will even succeed on the floor of the Senate, which means a majority of that body now supports drafting women. The only hope to stop this is on the House floor. Have we gone mad as a society?

Any vestige of GOP opposition to Democrat social transformation is now gone. There is no floor. Battle lines that used to hold for decades are now plowed through by Democrats in a matter of one committee markup. A party that stands for nothing, indeed.

Update: A Summary of the NDAA from McCain's office defends the provision to include women in Selective Service as follows: "Because the Department of Defense has lifted the ban on women serving in ground combat units, the committee believes there is no further justification in limiting the duty to register under the Military Selective Service Act to men." Thus, McCain believes that because a few liberal social groups and Obama's politically appointed generals want to include women in combat on a voluntary basis, the Senate should therefore require all women to potentially register for the draft. And instead of debating this earth shattering social transformation publicly in a standalone bill, McCain decided to slip in the provision to a 1,000-page bill authorizing all defense programs.

Another disturbing provision in this bill establishes an independent National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service. The commission is tasked with, among other things, to "consider how to foster a sense of service and civic responsibility among the nation's youth, improve military recruiting, and increase the pool of qualified applicants for military service and their propensity to serve." While this provision sounds innocuous, some conservatives might be concerned that given McCain's long record of support for Americorps and other public service programs, he will use this program to compel young adults (now including women) into some sort of public service.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), who sits on the Armed Services Committee, was so vehemently opposed to this provision that he voted against the underlying bill. In a statement provided to Conservative Review, the Texas senator noted that although the committee adopted 12 of his amendments related to an array of foreign policy and national security issues, he could not "in good conscience vote to draft our daughters into the military, sending them off to war and forcing them into combat." "I will continue my efforts to speak out against the effort to force America's daughter into combat," wrote the former presidential candidate in a statement.

Update: Sens. Mike Lee and Deb Fischer also voted against final passage. Sen. Lee called this provision "misguided and ill-advised" in a statement he released tonight. He also opposed the bill because it continues the program funding the Syrian rebels. "The bill authorizes the continuation of the Syria Train and Equip program, which was suspended last year after expending hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer money to train only four or five fighters and finance the purchase of weapons that were ultimately seized by Al Nusra, the Syrian Al Qaeda affiliate," wrote Lee. "I firmly believe that the American counter-ISIS strategy must be reconsidered from the top-down and that we should not fund failing programs."

You know, you sound just like a liberal; you use their same vicious tactics of personally insulting someone because of their beliefs. You must be a liberal. You and your ilk have bought into their soulless ideology. Sorry, I can’t humor you. Anyone who thinks like you must be a liberal. For me reality rules.

Absolutely. Make ‘em register and be eligible for combat slots, that’ll teach ‘em what “equality” really means.

once again, we’re dealing with a simple syllogism. 1. Feminism has been calling for drafting women from the beginning of feminism. It’s a core part of feminism. 2. Someone who believes feminist positions is a feminist. That’s simple logic because feminism is a belief system. 3 you believe the feminist position on the military. 4 ergo. You are a feminist. So is McCain

1. not all feminists believe in having women drafted, many don’t believe in the draft at all. 2. that is not at all a core of feminism, I have never once heard a feminist calling for a more inclusive selective service act, mostly they have ignored it throughout the history of feminism, since they see, rightly, that it benefits women, at the expense of men, not to have to register. 3. many other conservatives believe as I do, that it is a question of fairness, and has nothing to do with feminism. 4. your logic is as faulty as your debating skills. 5. ergo, you are a liberal

Every election cycle, some of the designated "conservatives" in Congress get to do things designed to make them look good back home... these "things" they get to do never actually do anything, but it allows them to get reelected. We've seen this dance over and over every election year.

The whole bunch of them are one big club, and they have this routine down pat now.

“2. that is not at all a core of feminism,”

You are truly ignorant — or hoping that you can get away with lies. Either way, anyone who’s been around for 50 years as I have, knows that the core principle of feminism is the one that you have embraced with your feminist position on drafting women - i.e., women should be treated the same as men. That’s feminism - your position - in a nutshell.

As Gloriad Steinem pu it in 1970, “Men will have to give up ruling-class privileges, but in return they will no longer be the only ones to support the family, get drafted, bear the strain of power and responsibility.”
“Gloria Steinem - ‘What would if be like if women win’. 1970”
http://jackiewhiting.net/AP/Steinem.htm

It’s a measure of how much Steinem and the original feminists have been victorious, that people like you in 2016 buy their agenda, and think you are “conservative” So many modern conservatives have bought into the old liberal positions — and then you criticize people like me for calling you what you are: liberals and feminists who don’t even realize it.

“Men will have to give up ruling-class privileges, but in return they will no longer be the only ones to support the family, get drafted, bear the strain of power and responsibility.”

Nice try, but that quote in no way makes it a core principle of feminism...however, tolerance of dissenting opinion IS a core principle of conservatism...an idea you should brush up on.

But keep on insulting those who disagree with you, liberal...really you sound like you belong on Democratic Underground.

Females do not belong in combat positions but otherwise I am for this.

Oh golly, my daughter might have to join the military. Meaning she’d have to learn discipline, love of country, and get free college money? Heaven forbid.

I don’t believe in chivalry. Chivalry is what has enabled feminism and much of the cultural downfall of the west. The fact that you have two X chromosomes doesn’t mean you get special treatment from me.

hey, i’m tolerating your opinion. I’m just pointing out that it’s the feminist opinion. Obama, McCain and you all hold it, along with Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan. I’m sorry that you feel insulted by a truthful statement, but that’s not my problem.

“imagine drafting women of childbearing yrs ..”

I certainly can’t imagine drafting women who are NOT of childbearing years. That would mean under thirteen or over forty or even older.

Israel puts large numbers of women into uniform to make a political point — and also, as I said, because demolition of sexual distinctions has always been part of the socialist playbook.

Now that Israel exists and muslims have been radicalized (thanks in no small part to Israel), we need it to continue. But I have no special affection for it, and believe the world would have been more stable and less dangerous if dreamy 19th century socialists hadn’t invented Zionism. Whatever regional political influence the US gains from our relationship with Israel could just as easily and at lower cost have been cultivated with Lebannon. But we have never been very good at foreign policy, have we? And now it’s too late.

And that sounds like the response of one who does not understand the religion of the Pharisees whom Jesus & John rebuked, for their religion states, and I quote...

“A Jew who kills a Christian commits no sin, but offers an acceptable sacrifice to G_d.”

And for the record, I am a “Jew” by descent, therefore, according to my brethren, I am a self-hater, not an anti-Semite.

I suggest you go and look up Ben Gurion’s prediction in the special addition of LOOK Magazine, Jan. 16, 1962 “The Next 25 Years”. The entire special addition, with quotes from JFK, MLK, and many many more prominent leaders of that time, many of which have been fulfilled are quite revealing as to the trend of world globalization that we see today. I would also venture to guess that what you call Zionism & what Ben Gurion and those of his ilk call Zionism are two very different things as theirs is rooted in the Talmud & the Zohar, while yours is rooted in a misunderstanding of what it means to ‘pray for the peace of Jerusalem’.

Shalom & may you have a blessed Shabbat

Me, too. But I’ll go further. Women can serve in combat IF they volunteer? Do the men have to volunteer? If the women are equal, they’re equal.

Fogerty needs to write another song called “Senator’s Daughter”.

Wow, I never realized how many misogynists there are in FR. Have many women spoken?

I have 2 granddaughters who I suppose would be draft age, but they are both mothers of babies.

Draft the mothers of the next generation, huh? Way to go, guys.
