Well, my take may be a bit different. But to me, this is an issue of how far do we take women’s lib. If there is to be complete equality in every area of life, per the liberals/leftists, then of course females should be available for the draft, if we ever go back to the draft.
Hoist the liberals on their petard. There are some good valid reasons why the two sexes are treated differently in some areas of life. If they persist that there can be no differences, no “discrimination”, then logically, females need to be drafted too.
Kill the damn bill. No one stops them from joining except their own short comings.

McCain is so unpredictable, he is the Loki of the Republican Party.
I am with him on this one. No better way to kill the vestigial, useless Selective Service System. Its retirement is long overdue.
I hate Juan, but this makes sense. If women are going to be on the front lines and in Special Forces, then they can be conscripts. Otherwise it’s a.double standard.
That said, women don’t belong in combat. Doing so is reckless and harmful for the sake of political grandstanding.
I wouldn’t mind drafting them into completely noncombat (think, stateside administrative) positions in time of war.
But in our current environment, this is crazy.
The Democrats want this and McCain’s purpose is to give the Democrats what they want while taking the political hit on the Democrats’ behalf. McCain and Graham have always seen that as their main function.

I do not like McCain. But I think he is doing it to underscore a point and embarrass the Dems who lifted restrictions vs women in combat positions. If they are now eligible for combat then so too should they be eligible for the draft.How will the Dems respond to that?
