For nearly a year, Richard Rosenfeld’s research on crime trends has been used to debunk the existence of a “Ferguson effect”, a suggested link between protests over police killings of black Americans and an increase in crime and murder. Now, the St Louis criminologist says, a deeper analysis of the increase in homicides in 2015 has convinced him that “some version” of the Ferguson effect may be real.
Looking at data from 56 large cities across the country, Rosenfeld found a 17% increase in homicide in 2015. Much of that increase came from only 10 cities, which saw an average 33% increase in homicide.
“These aren’t flukes or blips, this is a real increase,” he said. “It was worrisome. We need to figure out why it happened.”
All 10 cities that saw sudden increases in homicide had large African American populations, he said. While it’s not clear what drove the increases, he said, he believes there is some connection between high-profile protests over police killings of unarmed black men, a further breakdown in black citizens’ trust of the police, and an increase in community violence.

In DC the increase was from 102 in 2014 to 154 or 156 in 2015. In the same period tourist dollars increased from under 4 billion to over 7 billion.

You are correct . We were raised to give respect to others and the law.. We have ethics and morals. The cultures have different and conflicting values. We Don’t understand, we have not been raised to think this way . . . THANK. GOD !!!!
Is it the “Ferguson effect” or the “Eric Holder effect”?
Emerging is the “progressive excuse factor” that is allowing these savages more legal wiggle room and relentlessly pounding civil society with the humanitarian aspect of it all. And the hunting continues because we dare not offer a quick and decisive deterant for fear of being racist, how silly are we?
Not just a higher percent of blacks but those 10 cities vote Democrat so their local government and community mind set panders to the Trayvons and Michael Browns.
We out here who have to live out here in the melee have known for some time that the effect is real.
When animals can chant kill the pigs, on the street and yet be taken seriously as a political force, then, yeah, some cops might be motivated to keep the head down and put in their twenty and get the hell out.
Exactly. And people yet ponder why civilized races have better sense than to live near Africans. Every city, every country around the world ruled by them becomes an undesirable place to live.
It appeared to me that the number of blacks refusing to obey police orders to get out of the car, put your hands up, get down on the ground, Stop!, etc. took an exponential jump shortly after Ferguson and is still carried on today.
Blacks confronting the police, daring them to shoot or get into a physical battle.
It’s almost as if they want a ‘suicide by cop.’ They want to be a martyr, the event that starts a riot.
If you look at the stats it’s black males 18-35 committing the crimes. So that’s about 2% of blacks. 3-4% of the entire population responsible for more than half the violent crimes in the country.
And they wonder why we cross the street or click the door locks when they are around?
That IS the Ferguson Effect. It is interesting that the very manifestation of the F.E. is denied and claimed as untrue because of the F.E. It is untrue if we can use a definition rather than the term itself.
Let's see... I'm a white cop patrolling a black violence prone neighborhood. Do I risk my life stopping black-on-black crime, or just let it go, especially knowing I'll get no support from the media and Feds, White House on down? Seems pretty clear to me.
