As I've said several times, this is a woman-to-woman problem.
It's a problem between women as a group - a group which tends to be liberal - and a subset of very liberal, very radical women.
One problem is that liberals become very invested in their positions. They think they are smarter than everyone else, so they tend to paint themselves into corners, where they can't back down without admitting that (a) they were wrong in their position on whatever issue, and (b) that they were wrong in their belief that they're smarter than everyone else.
It's very, very tough for them to back down at that point. The best the rest of us can hope for is that - at some point - liberalism as a whole will cut this or that activist group loose, and they (the group) will go into the memory hole.
Of course the members of that group - as individuals - go on their way, join other groups, and keep doing what they do.
It's interesting to note that in this case (the "open bathrooms" issue) there is no single individual who has emerged as the champion, the "face of the issue." Perhaps because no one wants to be the next Cindy Sheehan.
My private club got a notification from some queer organization that they will have to install a queer restroom in the future, so as to be put on notice. We already have one, but it has to be renamed a Job Johnny or a Job Jaynie with an appropriate sign. Of course Job Queeries will have to traverse 50’ in the winter to use it, but it IS there. Besides if we had any of those critters in the Gun Club they’d be targets.
