Hall and Oates
Most successful music duo? Of all time?
“they are not a nostalgia act.”
Still charting hits or new album sales?
Prince had become a nostalgia act to the masses. when he died, the revived sales were all for Purple Rain and the songs from that album comprised half of the entries on journalists’ “top 10 songs” list.
It doesn’t mean that you’ve stopped creating, just that the majority have stopped listening.
Bowie too.
“Let’s Dance” became the go-to song for news reports on his death.

Unfortunately, the video is just stupid; close your eyes while listening to the music.
The thread hijacks are missing the point. The article isn’t about whether or not he is a nostalgia act. It’s his attitude about social justice warriors and academia.
His attitudes would be right at home here on FR.
He said they need to STFU, and thinks academia needs more time getting educated. Fun article.
Daryl Hall—I thought that was Mick Jagger’s wife until I started reading the article.
Calling Hall and Oates's pop music "blue-eyed soul" may be making a claim of African-American roots that aren't any deeper in their case than in any other American pop music.
My fav H&O song is “Some Things are Better Left Unsaid” (their best lyrics) and the best version is “Live at Daryl’s House” with John Rzeznik (GooGooDolls). Guitar solo at the end is GREAT!

The author has started the chronic with a vodak chaser a bit early, I see.
Most of their biggest hits were produced by my Philadelphia Hero: Todd Rundgren: “A Wizard, A True Star!”
Full disclosure, I’ve never seen his show (on tv or internet) but I have seen some clips listed on youtube. I didn’t realize who “Daryl” in Daryl’s House was. I thought it was some house tour circuit web program. Some radio stations also do this sort of thing and even Pete Townsend was doing this type of performance in small places and putting it online for awhile.
Also, I almost went to his show tonight to see the opening acts. Don’t know that I would’ve stayed through the whole set but Sharon Jones is good and I see her when I can. Trombone Shorty and a ticket sale to boot. But money is tight and it rained so hillside seats would be a bad idea (still raining).
He can rely on the old songs money.
Well, this entire critique is coming back
Im sorry to hear it. Who is making these critiques? Who do they write for? What are their credentials to give an opinion like that? Who are they?
Much of it is academic.
Well, then they should go back to school. Academia? Now, theres a hotbed of idiocy.

How true.
[Daryl Hall is possibly the most interesting man in music]
I have to stop by just to issue this:
LOLOLOLOL
Heard a female vocal cover of “One on One” this week.
Wowzers!
Just as great as the Hall and Oates’ original.
“He and John Oates form the most successful musical duo of all time,”
Oh good God, Simon and Garfunkel blew these jokes away.
I read the entire article. I like him. I really like him!
BTW, he is top five of the best male singers of all time (in my book, of course)
Good piece.
“Well, then they should go back to school. Academia? Now, theres a hotbed of idiocy.”
Bingo.
Live from Daryl’s House is an awesome show. Some of my favorites were Joe Walsh, Rob Thomas, and Grace Potter. Rob Thomas’s rearrangement of “Kiss on My List” is outstanding.
