An eventful life spent time in a Magdalene Laundry in Dublin aged 14 when labelled a "problem child", she said

sang Mandinka on Late Night with David Letterman in 1988, a year after debut album released

Nothing Compares 2 U was number one in Ireland for 11 weeks

wrote her own Irish national anthem

has been outspoken about singer Miley Cyrus, music mogul Simon Cowell and actress Kim Kardashian

performed a tribute to David Bowie at a benefit concert in Chicago in March

WHOA! I did not know she was in a Magdalene laundry! I thought they were all closed down by the time she was born!

No wonder she's got problems!

Actually, O’Connor was the daughter of well-heeled parents. She was a truant (shoplifting, I believe) and was sent to a Magdeline Asylum training center. I do not believe she was made to do laundry (I’m not even sure that was in operation by then) but instead was taught music where she was encouraged to develop her musical talents. I’m sure it was traumatic for her but nothing more than anyone who was sent to juvenile hall in the past and emerged whole or fragmented depending on their inner core of strength.
