CNN ^ | 5/16/16 | Sophie Taum and David Mark

Donald Trump is making it clear he's not considering Marco Rubio as his running mate. The Florida senator is an oft-mentioned name as a vice-presidential choice for the presumptive GOP nominee. Speculation heightened after The Washington Post reported Sunday on five names that Trump surrogate Ben Carson suggested were under consideration.

Trump took to Twitter Sunday evening to dismiss those claims.

I wish Trump just strung him along all summer long of hopes he’d might be the VP. It would be funny seeing him kiss Trump’s butt non-stop.

Okay, whatever. Someday you need to learn to think for yourself and not just buy into everything the media tells you.

And what exactly have I "bought into" that "the media has told me?" Based on his own (limited) voting record and his own statements, I've come to the conclusion that Marco Rubio is one of the most dishonest and sleazy characters in the Republican Party. Don't blame the media for this, blame Rubio.

Best all-around pick is Jeff Sessions.

That would be a dream team. Fingers crossed.

The VP pick will be the one who the nominee thinks can help him best politically. It generally goes that way.

I think Trump is clever in leaking/refuting all these VP rumors, though.

It gives the media something to talk about, it engages the public, it spurs interest in the convention. And most importantly of all:

If freezes potential third-party challengers. Why would Kasich ruin himself for Romney when he's got a chance for the #2 slot with Trump? Same with Cotton from Arkansas. Same with General Mathis.

Those three names have appeared on third-party wish-lists, and they've also been the subject of Trump rumors. Coincidence?

It won't be Christie (unpopular in his home state, which is not in play anyway), Palin (had her shot, very high negatives), Gingrich (ancient, backwards looking), Guiliani (too NYC), Cruz, Rubio, etc.

Longshot - Walker.

But it will be Kasich - executive political experience, swing state, patina of gravitas, not too conservative as focus moves decidedly towards the left. His sober persona counters Trump's loose cannon personality.

First of all, there is a 0% chance that Romney or any of these people are going to run third party. That’s all a myth. And Trump isn’t going to pick Kasich, Cotton, or any of those people.

Donald is not going to pick anyone who is not a Natural Born Citizen. Rubio was, while being born in Maine, his parents were not naturalized till he was four. He is a naturalized but not natural born citizen.

No way Trump needs an establishment back stabber on the ticket.

If Trump picks one of those DC Politicians to join the ticket, the campaign will probably be sabotaged each step of the way.

Remember what happened to Sarah Palin in 2008. That whole horrible episode was complimentary of the Establishment GOP backstabbers working for her campaign.

Here’s the deal with Rubio (not that you need any more info, but there is a good link & I excerpted some of it):

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3402883/posts?page=23#23

As you can see, I am TOTALLY against Rubio .... he would have destroyed the country with his stance on immigration & if he ever gets back into a position to foist it on us again, he’ll do it ..... with Ryan fully on board to help him.

Yeah, that's the ticket. Some open borders jerk who eats like a slob is a consideration because he might help win Ohio.

I don't think Trump is going to pick a VP based on votes. He is going to pick someone who can take the baton to continue saving and rebuilding America.

Really? Based on the fact that he said he was bored as a Senator and shreds the Constitution, I wouldn’t vote for that puke.

Carson is a supporter of the Trump campaign.

Carson leaked names....as part of the Trump campaign.

They owned a piece of 2 news cycles with it. The talking heads talked about what Trump leaked.

I think he knows they are wind up toys.

I think Trump’s selection will be widely viewed by his supporters as a very wise choice. I suspect Trump knows the strengths and weaknesses of his possible choices by now. I saw Jan Brewer on Hannity again, and she was good but not great in her responses. She brings Arizona, and she fights. She knows the immigration argument forward and backward. She should show that when she’s on national TV. All that said, she did well.

Gingrich was on a couple of times. He was always in command. He has the verbal WOW factor and he fights like hell. He knows policy, both foreign and domestic, inside and out. And Romney hates him. He doesn’t bring a constitutency or a state, but he does bring the counter-argument to the Clinton’s “we balanced the budget.” He says, “Like hell. We FORCED a balanced budget.” He is fully ready to step in and be president if called upon. I also think he’d take ‘president of the Senate’ very seriously.

I agree, but The Newtster is too old. He would make a fantastic Chief of Staff. That position is more effective for the Prez than being a VP.

Now, wait for the Moonbats to bark, "Gingrich has more baggage than Delta airlines."

True. Rubio, Ryan, and Cruz are three sleazy, slimy, bottom-feeding, scum-sucking, sleaze-bags. All three prove every day that they don’t give a crap about this country.

You really do not understand Trump. He hates politics. He doesn't like playing games. He hires people with the best qualifications to accomplish tasks, not do-nothing vote magnets.

I like Newt, but he’ll be 73 by election day and with Trump 70 that’s putting two pretty old fellows at both the top slots, I’ve always kind-of of looked at the VP as the potential successor in waiting and would prefer somebody that’s a bit younger.
