80 miles? That would take an hour at the usual speeds on the 405! (or did you go during ‘rush’ hour, where traffic slowed to a crawl?)
My route was from Fullerton to the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena & back again. It never seemed to matter when I left (usually 6 am), I’d be at JPL 2 hours later, and always 3 hours for the return leg. Freeway traffic or surface streets seemed to take the same.
