A STRING QUARTET + 1
SCHUMANN: PIANO QUINTET IN E-FLAT, OP. 44, UN POCO LARGAMENTEIn this slow movement in 2/2, Bob stole from Beethoven, whose Symphony #3 in E-flat featured a funeral march in this key as its slow movement. Unlike Beethoven, Schumann decided to use an A-B-A-C-A format.
The B section is in C Major, and the A section returns briefly before an agitato C section in F minor. The agitation slows down for a quiet resolution in F Major.
The C minor material returns for a quiet end in C Major.
