Yes, pretty much what I had guessed. Australia is moving North West towards the continemt , and it is doing so as a single mass, so the ride is bumpy, causing the various quakes around Australia.
Those links are great resources. The dynamic of Australian tectonics seems to be devoid of Volcanic activity since it does not seem to have any subduction points near it ( yet), Most of that is happening in the Indonesia island chain, right now.
