No, the guy just went outside his apartment because he’d never seen snow falling before. He and his wife went out to take pictures of themselves in the snow. The black gang also shot up a pickup truck belonging to a Mexican that lived there.

I remember a time when gay men were being killed in Dallas and it was played up into some big wave of homophobia — evil white conservatives killing gays. But at the end of the day, it was just thugs trying to get money from easy targets.

In Dallas in the ‘50s, it was just called “rolling queers”. One guy from a carload would go into a known area and act as bait. After the gay made positive contact the other guys would jump him, beat him up and rob him. Lee Park and the Oaklawn were known gay areas then, just as they are today.
