Alcohol raises octane. Race cars have run on alcohol only.

Really? Do you know what octane is? Do you know what effect a higher octane rating have on how gasoline burns?

Please explain your claim...

Indy cars run on pure ethanol and have for years. Prior to that they ran on methanol. But if your family car is not built to run on the mix it can be a problem especially in carburetored and TBI’ed vehicles during hot months.
