powerful D.C. positions

I think there's a great difference in the power wielded by the Speaker of the House and the President's Press Secretary. What favors can a Press Secretary grant?

Sure, there's a great difference. But Lockhart's apparent financial success speaks volumes about the way the game is played in D.C. Obviously, whoever is paying Lockhart's 'communications firm' fees to communicate on its behalf seems to be under the impression that he has the influence and connections to get their message to the right people... in government and in the media. Where did acquire that influence and those connections? The White House gig.
