Why Newt Gingrich for VP Is Pure Genius

The media still can’t figure out why Newt Gingrich is at the very top of Donald Trump’s VP list. A recent Slate article starts this way: “Donald Trump selecting Newt Gingrich as his running mate would be insane.” The writer asserts Gingrich would be the “perfect” pick for Trump, implying the GOP front-runner is crazy as well. Call Donald Trump a lot of things; crazy is not one of them. Controversial, audacious, sometimes brash and extreme — all yes. But the primaries have showed Trump is a brilliant communicator and master tactician. “Crazy” like a fox, perhaps. Recently, I had lunch with a group of GOP billionaires and power brokers. The group had various feelings about Trump, pro and con. But all were dazzled by his ability to win a hotly contested Republican primary “all by himself,” as one of the attendees put it. (Billionaires hate spending money; that’s how they become rich. So they admire Trump for his “no-frills” approach.) Trump doesn’t think like a politician — and that's been his greatest strength with the public. When a “normal” presidential candidate looks at picking a vice presidential running mate, the candidate usually weighs what a selection brings to the ticket. Does the prospect carry a state? Would a woman, black or Hispanic help with one of those groups? Those are the questions, and others, asked by the candidates and their closest advisers. Trump wouldn’t ask those questions. He believes he is going to win this election himself. He will win women, blacks, and Hispanics by what he says and does.

I really like Newt, but not on the ticket...at the top of the White House staff structure.

Many of the people who vote for Cruz have already switched to supporting Trump.

They realize 1) that they were pretty much lied to by their candidate or 2) that not supporting Trump will mean a Hillary president.

There are a core of Cruz supporters who absolutely hate Mr. Trump, who believe Cruz was anointed by God to rule over the US and nothing will change that.

We don’t hate Cruz, at least I don’t. I saw what and who he was many months ago and at this point he has become a sad, delusional little man. There’s no point in hating him. He doesn’t care and he won’t change. He’ll still be trying to get the nomination long after the election is over.

I agree. And it would take too much time and resources to defend Newt. Trump needs to work on other things, not keep bailing out Newt 24/7.

Off the top of my head, seems that Newt is the last politician I can remember who had a vision and carried it out pretty much as advertised. Am I wrong?

I don’t think Hillary has a snowball’s chance in hell of being elected president.

The Bern folks are not enthused with her, and have already made overtures to support Trump.

“a campaign that no longer exists”? Seems like every day we hear about new scheming. Look at the stealth Cruz delegates in Washington, even though Trump won with 77%. Have the others quit? What is Cruz game plan, except mischief? He won’t even honor his pledge to support Trump. What a lying loser.

Newt has no negatives that Trump himself doesn’t have. He brings “you want to get things done and I know this government inside out” to the table which is invaluable. He’s also an outstanding speaker who’s ridiculously intelligent and charismatic. He doesn’t deliver a state or a demographic but he’s a great choice.

Cruz sided with#Blacklivesmatter thugs, illegal aliens, communist flag carrying anarchists, and Muslims who physically attacked Donald Trump’s Chicago rally.

He is what he is.

Yes, you personally laugh about the attacks.
You just did again.
You are unrepentant.

The rest of us on this site are not going to play a game of pretend with you.
If you want to continue to try to groom people to become dhimmis, you will continue to be confronted.

Ted Cruz went there.
Nobody who followed him there gets a pass.

It’s not a deep bench of guerilla fighters who can help win elections. Unless you have name I’m nit seeing it.

Can anyone imagine what it would be like if Newt debated Elizabeth Warren? That debate would have the same ratings as the Super Bowl.

Newt would win ... hands down. AND yeah, I'd watch and be cheering.

Not at all.
I am perfectly capable of recognizing the the folks who attacked Donald Trump have been attacking other targets for decades and that they are a threat to me and all of my freedoms.

Anyone who (for any reason at all) sides with them in their attacks is their ally.

Any ally of the folks who attacked the rally, is my enemy.

That means Cruz, who insisted that Trump was the cause.
It also means anyone who continued to back him without a full retraction and a mea culpa making it clear that he understood why what he said could never be acceptable under any circumstance.

You continue to dig in squarely in that camp.

You have no intellectual defense.
You have no moral defense.
You have no ethical defense.

You could be silent about the failed Goldman Sachs puppet, and that would be your second best course of action at this point.

But you keep trying to sell Ted Cruz, and dhimmitude is out of fashion.

I confess not from the Senate. From the House; Trey Gowdy, Matt Salmon, Tom McClintock, Cathy McMorris-Rodgers, Louie Gohmert, James Jordan...

Newt’s personal past is anathema to social conservatives,
and needs rehabilitation to attract the women’s vote.
Trump needs someone with an appeal to voter groups Trump does not do well with.

What I, for one, cannot figure out, is how campaign Professionals can subdivide Americans down to individual hairs on the chest of the USA. Does it mean nothing to be "an American" anymore?

[I know the answer...]

Newsmax is GOPe. The people in charge there would prefer Hillary over Trump which is why they’re giving this questionable advice.
