Why Newt Gingrich for VP Is Pure Genius

The media still can’t figure out why Newt Gingrich is at the very top of Donald Trump’s VP list. A recent Slate article starts this way: “Donald Trump selecting Newt Gingrich as his running mate would be insane.” The writer asserts Gingrich would be the “perfect” pick for Trump, implying the GOP front-runner is crazy as well. Call Donald Trump a lot of things; crazy is not one of them. Controversial, audacious, sometimes brash and extreme — all yes. But the primaries have showed Trump is a brilliant communicator and master tactician. “Crazy” like a fox, perhaps. Recently, I had lunch with a group of GOP billionaires and power brokers. The group had various feelings about Trump, pro and con. But all were dazzled by his ability to win a hotly contested Republican primary “all by himself,” as one of the attendees put it. (Billionaires hate spending money; that’s how they become rich. So they admire Trump for his “no-frills” approach.) Trump doesn’t think like a politician — and that's been his greatest strength with the public. When a “normal” presidential candidate looks at picking a vice presidential running mate, the candidate usually weighs what a selection brings to the ticket. Does the prospect carry a state? Would a woman, black or Hispanic help with one of those groups? Those are the questions, and others, asked by the candidates and their closest advisers. Trump wouldn’t ask those questions. He believes he is going to win this election himself. He will win women, blacks, and Hispanics by what he says and does.

Newt’s push of NAFTA to help Clinton/Gore was pure genius as well.

It is true, it would be work so easy for him, that he almost might be ashamed of the pleasure he gets in it.

Only if you want Hillary, Bernie, Biden, or whomever is the Dem nominee to win.

Either stop posting this crap, or stop pinging me to ANYTHING having to do with Newtie being the VEEP...maybe.

I hate to say it, but it’s the truth.

Newt has more baggage than the lost and found at LAX.

Not only that, he’s absolutely brilliant about 85% of the time. And then he’ll uncork a doozie that sets you back years.

I would like for Newt to be in Trump’s administration too. I think there’s a better fit for him in some other position than VP. I’m just not feeling it, what with all the rules that are being broken by Mr. Trump. I trust DJT to create a stellar VP list that will knock our socks off if he chooses to release such a thing, and if not, it’s okay with me if he surprises us at the Convention with his pick.

I’m still favoring Peter G. Fitzgerald, former US Senator for the state of IL. He turned over the tables of the money changers in DC, eventually falling out of grace with his party, but served our country admirably in doing so. His wife is a fine woman that just happens to be from somewhere far south of the border, which couldn’t hurt, what with the dynamics of today. See: Nina Kersteins Fitzgerald.

At one time I thought-and hoped-their ‘tiff’ was all an act to fool the establishment. It’s gone too far for that, I think. But it would be a great ticket.

“On top of that, there is the question of his citizenship status.”

Yeah, I forgot that. It’s important the VP be able to run in 4 or 8 years. Newt is just too old for that.

Tom Brady.

That might take some air out of the Clinton campaign.

Fitzgerald was the youngest of five. “He was an unexpected caboose,” his wife, Nina, once told a supporters. “You can see the family portraits, Peter is in none of them.”

During a 1979 internship in Washington, he met his future wife, Carmen Nina Kerstiens (Smith, London School of Economics, Harvard Law) at a party.

Don’t be too put off by the Harvard Law connection.

Newt also makes Ryan irrelevant. You have your VP as the effective Speaker of the House as well as President of the Senate.

Thank you !

I keep getting heat/snarky, uneducated, pathetically STUPID replies when I write about why this is an extremely idiotic idea. Far too many here don't remember/know/understand Newt's political and personal history, nor the fact that the Clintons still have their playbook on how to bring Newtie down and WILL use it and there's NOTHING that Trump can use to counter it.
