Sometimes the det. cord is in the rails that attach the canopy to it’s frame/s. That one of the first things we worry about when safe ting a ejection seat after a “hard” landing, The pins installed interrupt the ejection process/s at varying points of the ejection system/s.

Not completely, put there is perm. damage to the person after wards. It is one of the worst things to be done to a human body in order to keep them alive, in the event of the aircraft becoming unflyable.

With the Hornet, the canopy is the first thing to go. Typically we blow the canopy (not det cord but an hydraulic sequence that unlocks the canopy, slides it back out of the detents and lifts it to be pulled in the airstream) and then the seats follow in sequence (rear to front), typically in under one second.
