Wrong Dr. Sowell. Socialism sounds awful and plain evil. It is the oppression of the individual. In other words, it si the oppression of people. It is force, it is coercion, it is envy and fear. It is darkness and death. It is an awful and very dangerous mistake to give them any credit at all. It is all an ugly, deadly lie.
What world are you living in? The rich share their wealth with me and me getting free stuff ? Sounds pretty good to a lot of people.
That’s only when you look at the consequences and the descendant corollaries.
Who does that?
Take rent control. That’s got to make housing for the masses more available and affordable, right? Of course it tends to mean buildings are not kept up, no new housing for a growing population except with exempted categories, which - having little to no competition in a high-demand environment - increases exponentially. Thus you get a small protected ‘elite’ who benefit from being in on the ground floor, and a decreasing supply of genuinely affordable housing.
Obvious, but one has to look at more than the side of the greedy and covetous that think wealth comes from dark magic.
But the “publik skools” as Dr. Sowell states, does not teach our children to be critical thinkers, so to idiots, socialism always “sounds” good. Idiots can’t analyze anything in depth, nor have the attention span to get past that nice word, “free”.
Socialism only promotes slavery of the virtuous and promotes Vice-—the opposite of what a true “Justice” System needs to do.
We now have flipped 2000 years of Ethics for Rule of Man (Vice System of slavery) back to the Socialist/pagan, feudal/serf model of enslaving and punishing the productive for making a few elites extremely wealthy who have totalitarian control over the Minds (skools) of all the children, so this cycle of slavery can last for generations because of the drugged, dumb children being programmed by screens and prison systems (skools)..
Besides, Marxists change the meaning of words to fool the masses-—Up is Down-— so it is harder to understand just what they are saying (like Slavery is Freedom).
