Actually the economy follows a 2 year lag of who controls Congress. The Uni party though, may be changing the history on that to steady decline.

There is a high correlation in the deficit trend (up or down) with the party that controls the House of Representatives over the past few decades. It is even stronger if you could compare the margin of control (number of seats).

I haven’t done the calculation in a few years. I’ll try to dig up the data and see if the correlation has held.
