CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A former Marine says he was fired from his contract job with Time Warner Cable in Charlotte after he lowered the American flag to half-staff on Memorial Day.

The 29-year-old Thornwell was fired Tuesday. The placement service that arranged the job for Thornwell said Time Warner told them they were disturbed by what was termed his "passion for the flag and (his) political affiliation."

There’s got to be more to this story!

There is. From the Charlotte Observer story:

The U.S. Flag Code, which offers guidance on how to fly the flag during holidays, says the banner should be at half-staff until noon on Memorial Day then returned to its normal position. Thornwell said the incident took place around 2:30 p.m.

Thornwell, who was discharged in 2014, said he was aware of the holiday protocol but was moved to lower the flag anyway. He wishes now that he had asked permission.

If this young man adjusted the flag to the correct position, then the flag was being displayed improperly. Who would have ‘standing’ to sue/fine TWC for failure to observe the rules for flying the US Flag on non-residential property?

VFW maybe? American Legion?

If he can prove they said he was fired for “political affiliation” he has a $lam-dunk civil right$ ca$e.

Don't think he can sue under a civil rights violation...

But he can go before the EOE and make a claim...

Most companies have very clear progressive discipline SOP's...to terminate someone unless he committed gross negligence...which does not seem to be the case here.

Based on his story, it sounds like they violated their own policy in terminating him...

It needs to start happening before we are so far down this road that nothing less than violence will work.

That point has been passed long ago.

Charlotte used to be an OK place up until the mid 90s. I grew up just outside across the state line.

These days I have 0 interest in going there.

Proof conclusive that liberals hate America. They spit on the graves of the people who died so they could have their stinkin’ freedom. I long for the days back in the 50’s when ALL Americans got along without the bitter hatred we experience today. We had celebrations on every holiday and you didn’t know or care if it was a Democrat or a Republican that pushed your face into the pie at the Blueberry Pie Eating Contest. We all just had fun and loved our country. Now I would like to push a liberal’s face into a pile of you-know-what!

From the article which is important to the story, imo.
Note that the incident took place around 2:30 pm.

Agreed. My first thought was where is Paul Harvey when you need him for the "rest of the story".

This might have something to do with the termination of his contract as well.

Thornwell also took his outrage to Facebook, naming Time Warner and posting a video.

That night (before he was terminated) on Facebook, Thornwell posted the photos he took of the flag at full- and half-staff, and brief video of himself talking to the camera as he walked back to his job site. He stamped the footage “Timewarner.”

He put this title on the post: “So many years wasted. I’m telling you ... PEOPLE DON’T GIVE A F***.”

And evidently according to the article he also came to work without his badge which is why he had to go to the security office and was there at 2:30 PM when he took it upon himself to lower the flag to half-mast even though the flag code says the flag is to be flown at half-mast until Noon and then raised to full-mast. How did he know they hadn’t flown the flag properly before he arrived at work?

So he himself violated the flag code, didn’t ask permission to lower the flag, showed up for work without his badge and then on company time, took pictures and a video disparaging the company and posted it to FB.

Thanks, been corrected already...in a private reply.

I took out the SEAL ring I have this morning. VERY nice. What it represents can't be described as it is DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY ... and they WOULD die for it, or as George C. Scott repeated what General George Patton said in WWII:

"Be seated. Now, I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."

Every time I see a headline like this I think that there must be more to the story. I’m still thinking that here.

Uh-oh, you dug into the facts of the story. You’re supposed to just rage about liberals and rant about how the country’s going to hell. How dare you be reasonable!
