Yes, before the internet, we were in the dark. But knowledge is for crap if you don't act on it. I've been here since '99, reading the same 'ol bitching, moaning and groaning from the same bunch of lazy-a**es. The internet is useless if it doesn't spur you into action.
What does work is, as you said, organizing. Get a couple dozen PO'd rabble rousers like yourself together, make the protest signs, then camp out in front of your congresscritters' local offices. Make sure you tell the local media, 'cause they love that kind of stuff.
