In Brock Turner’s home town, we’re raising kids who are never told ‘no’
Washington Post ^ | June 8, 2016 | Kate Geiselman

An alternate version of the Brock Turner sexual assault story has been spinning in my imagination since last January, when I first heard of his arrest.

In my version, he recognizes that what happened on Stanford’s campus behind that dumpster was rape. He comes to understand that intoxication is not consent. He takes responsibility for his violent “action” that irreparably harmed another human being, instead of blaming them on alcohol. Rather than spending a year and a half honing his story, making excuses and lawyering up, he pleads guilty. He looks his victim squarely in the eyes and says, “I’m sorry. I had no business putting my hands on or in you after you were no longer able to give consent. I should have helped you to safety instead of running and lying about why I did. I will do everything I can to spare you any further pain. I will spend the rest of my life educating young people about consent and sexual violence.”

Why is this story such big news? According to the feminists this happens 100 times a day in this country!

It’s only a big story because the judge bend over backwards and only gave the rapist 6 months in county lock up. He’ll be out in 3 apparently. Had he gotten 10 years in the state pen it would be a non story.

Convicted rapist, rich or not, excuses or not, needs to be taken out and shot. Executed. Zero tolerance.

Really? He was falsely accused? Is that how you understand this case?

What is your point? Are you trying to excuse his actions?

Wow.

I knew some frat boys like you back in the day.

Can’t be rape, every girl wants to have sex with me.

One of the reasons I was a GDI.

You might think differently if you had a daughter, unless you are into incest too.

Because the inclusion of the defendant’s father’s stupid comments and the ever so powerful victim’s impact statement.

If you have not read them you should

You obviously know NOTHING of this case. So you really ought to just stay quiet because all you are doing is embarrassing yourself

I read them, still don’t get what the big deal is. According to feminists and outdated leftist magazines, White Dudes are raping the crap out of every other girl in America every day on College campuses. Why would this story be such a big deal then?

What say you Lisbon1940, were you joking about Brock getting Nifonged?

The only problem with making a joke like that (and I don’t really believe that it is/was) is that there are folks on this very thread who do think the way that Lisbon does.

They’re not really, but in this case, eyewitnesses came upon him raping an unconscious victim. You can argue about what really constitutes consent, morning after regrets, and no means no, and all of that, but in this case, you have eyewitness testimony to an unconscious victim being violated behind a dumpster. And the father pleads to the judge not to ruin his son’s life because of “20 minutes of action”. And the kid will do 90 days — there are thousands maybe millions who have done 90 days over misdemeanor traffic violations. Something’s very wrong about that, IMHO.

It's news because there are witnesses. 99% of the time there are no witnesses

The media was running with this one long before the crazy sentence was handed down though.
