Talk grows of replacing Trump at GOP convention
Yahoo News ^ | June 8, 2016 | Jon Ward

There is growing talk on the right of replacing Donald Trump, the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee for president, and even chatter about a possible alternative.

As Trump has floundered over the past week after questioning a federal judge’s impartiality because of his Mexican ancestry, Trump’s critics within the GOP have stepped up their efforts to thwart him. Some anti-Trump conservatives, who have tried for months to recruit an independent candidate, have begun looking more closely at attempting to persuade delegates at next month’s GOP convention to nominate someone other than Trump.

“There is a rapidly moving train toward the convention to try to obstruct it at the convention. Trump in the last 72 hours has given hope to people who think it’s now possible,” said Erick Erickson, a conservative radio talk show host and one of Trump’s most resolute critics.

“He’s starting to give everybody hope that he should be stopped at the convention,” Erickson said, though he cautioned that if Trump “cleans up his act then I think that hope will go away.”

So what’s new? They have been trying to discredit and knock off Trump from day one.

Time for these traitors to self deport.

Can't wait until we can help them do so.

Exactly right.

Trump “floundered” his way to the most GOP primary votes in history this week.

What a loser we’ve got on our hands! /s

Does anybody know if the GOP-E can force a VP that is not Trump’s choice?

At the convention, is the ticket voted on as one, or are President and VP separate? In other words can they saddle him with a establishment figure by refusing to vote for the VP Trump chose?

And not only that, during the campaign, you are going to see the Republican Party covertly and overtly do everything in its power to aid the Hillary Clinton Campaign and to do everything in their power to sabotage Donald's Campaign. In short, all we have is Donald and all Donald will have is us.

I am gathering the we are going to see a steady stream of anti-Trump moves over the next few weeks leading up to the convention. These Wisconsin Republicans—Ryan, Walker, and Priebus—are scheming. GOPe has not yet accepted Trump’s win and their loss.

They are “gaslighting” us here. Trump isn’t going to be removed at the convention but you are correct that the likes of Cruz and Ryan are planning a divisive convention to weaken Trump. The GOPe are trying to “Goldwater” Trump but don’t want their finger prints on it. So for the next month we will get this steady negative drum beat to deny Trump a crowning convention.

I wonder if these so called conservative Republicans realize that they have destroyed the republican party with their prognostications, pronouncements, and reprehensible behavior.
I have been a registered Republican since 1967, after this election I will be going to the registrars office to drop my affiliation as a Republican, and re-register as a Conservative Party member.
Unless some TEA partiers out there have a better suggestion that I can research.

I’m in the same spot. I’ve never been so disgusted with the GOP. Even the worst Boehner caves were better than this. Seeing the likes of Romney & Ryan prefer Hillary & her SCOTUS picks to Trump is nauseating. Given that I see no reason to ever vote for a GOPe candidate, Ted Cruz included, again.

The convention votes separately for VP, but, again, where would the votes come from?

Despite the FR delusion that all delegates are Establishment hacks, delegates always adopt bandwagon and party unity behavior once the major issue is decided.

The big mistake the GOP-E made was failing to pay attention to the fact the GOP grass roots activists have become more conservative since GW Bush. Guys like Kristol really thought they had grass roots GOP support.

The first item Hewitt mentioned this morning is that within the last hour he had been dis-invited and then re-invited to the Convention. (who the hell re-invited him?)

This over his hysteria yesterday demanding that the RNC conspire to change the Convention rules to deny Trump the nomination.

So he sounds a bit worried this morning, and he’s now busily insisting that he’s not #neverTrump even though he’s helping lead that charge.

I’d love to see Weaselman Hugh get banned from attending the Convention, he’d have to try to cover it from across the street with the Soros mob.

To use a favorite turn of phrase of Ryan: This is textbook gaslighting by Hewitt. Yesterday he drops the you know what in the punch bowl and now today claims he did no such thing. This is psywar and they are yanking our chains. The whole plan is to keep the never Trump brush fire burning and weaken Trump. The careerist GOP clearly prefer Hillary to Trump. How sad is that?

Hewitt, et al, are just baiting Trump and supporters into doing something really stupid. Hewitt, Kristol, and the cocktail party circuit got nothing! It’s all bluff.

because of his Mexican ancestry

That's a RATaganda narrative and is not what he said.

On the most recent "Face the Nation" he told John Dickherson that his issue with the judge was that he belongs to a "pro-Mexican society"....which turns out to be LA RAZA.

I know some will see this strange, but yes I do fear for his life, however this is different. I felt this election along what is going on in this nation and world. We are entering an age between good and evil. A spiritual warfare has begun. I feel Donald is meant to be in the White House and he will. Why do I pick up an impression that 2 attempts will be made BUT they will fail? Not sure. This I will say even many here will laugh at me but I strongly feel Donald is spiritually protected not just physically protected by Secret Service. That is why I feel anything they do to harm him whether verbally or physically, they will fail.

Ok I am going to go put on my tin foil hat and eat some toast.

Talk grows of staying home in November if the GOPe steals the nomination from the voters’ choice. If it means four years of Hillary and a Democratic House and Senate, so be it — the responsibility will rest squarely the empty heads of the poltroons who cooked up this scheme.

Trying to substitute Cruz for Trump would be the most stupid thing they could do. It would take two weeks, tops, for the media to indelibly label him as the Christian equivalent of an Islamic death-to-infidels nutcase.

On the other hand, maybe that's exactly the result they want to pave Hillary's path to the White House.
