A gunman took multiple people hostage overnight inside Pulse nightclub in Orlando, where "multiple people" were killed and 42 were injured, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said at a morning news conference.
The gunman, who has not been identified, was carrying an assault rifle, a handgun and a "device." The Orange County Sheriff;s Office hazardous device team is now searching the area.
Dozens of emergency vehicles surrounded the chaotic scene at the club at 1912 S. Orange Ave. after the 2 a.m. shooting and rescue squads were transporting multiple victims to area hospitals.

My concern here is regarding the taking of hostages - that doesn’t fit the terrorist M.O. Typically they simply kill everyone in sight...hopefully I’m wrong though.

It's criminal that these attacks have to continue to kill innocents before the left wakes up.
Remember, the survivors of San Bernadino massacre all reported 2-3 MALE shooters.....not a man and his wife.
It all depends on the identity of the perpetrators.
If they are Moslim, you will hear sympathy and pain for the victims. Followed by a disclaimer that the terrorist were misguided adherants to a tiny, very small branch of the “Religion of Peace” and we must show tolerance and understanding.
If they are BLM, see above.
If they are WASP males, you will see total outrage and vows to totally eradicate this vicious evil and their access to firearms from our society.
Then after the pResident’s talk, we will hear a chorus of Amens from the Amen Corner or Democrats, Republicans and the other usual suspects.
