I think that’s wrong actually. Providing we converted to their particular branch of Islam, they’d be fine with us. For 1400 years, that’s basically been the story: convert or die. Given the fact that they’ve grown from a small tribe in the Arabian desert to 1.5 billion people worldwide, I see no reason to doubt the sincerity of that offer (not that I have any interest in taking them up on it!).
I would probably do it, to save my neck (literally). Not everybody is cut out to be a martyr. God would forgive me.
