The story that a fuel tank spark set it off is bogus. Take a container of kerosene (otherwise known as jet fuel) and drop a match into it. Nothing will happen.

All sensors related to fuel systems are "intrinsically safe". They cannot make a spark or a wire hot enough to ignite the fuel even in the presence of oxygen.
