(June 9, 2016) Johnson Rising! Libertarian Party Candidate Hits 12 Percent in New Fox Poll
Reason ^ | |June 9, 2016 | Brian Doherty

The Libertarian Party's presidential candidate Gary Johnson has long insisted that the presidential debates are key to his ticket's success. And getting into the debates, through the front door anyway, requires polling at 15 percent in five (as yet unnamed) reputable national polls.

He's inching closer to that goal with today's announcement of his highest even national poll total, with 12 percent from Fox.

He was only at 10 in their last presidential poll including him in May. Since that poll, Clinton stayed the same against him and Trump with 39 percent, while Trump fell from 42 percent to 36 percent. (In Utah, Johnson's currently polling at 16 percent.)...

Johnson was a good governor of New Mexico, but then again, anyone would look good against the subsequent Bill Richardson, who is corrupt as the day is long. That being said, Johnson is a starry-eyed utopiist who thinks we should all get our buzz on and ride our bikes in day-glo spandex and silly aerodynamic helmets. Not exactly America’s first priority.

Exactly. That’s why I posted the dates it covers

Plus it doesn’t deal with what happens if they poll for four candidates....essentially the greens and the libtards split that 12%

I'm not surprised. The Johnson/Weld Libertarian ticket is undefined. Once Trump goes to work on them, those numbers will start to drop.

I don't know about Johnson but running mate Bill Weld is as RINO as they get.

Selecting individual polls is almost akin to wishful thinking. The range of polling is something like 6 to 12 percent. So, let’s call it 8 percent.

A number of these polls give results when Johnson is included and when he isn’t. Including him doesn’t change the margin. Johnson pulls a few more Republicans from Trump, than he pulls Democrats from Hillary. But, Johnson pulls more independents from Hillary than he does from Trump. So far a wash.

There is the possibility he will rise and even be at 15 points and be in the debates. Even in this most optimistic scenario for him, the odds are he doesn’t have a chance of winning, in which case lots of his supporters will vote for Hillary or Trump on the “lesser of two evils” argument.

Trump did real well yesterday on the LBGT and Muslim situation. He talked about us being all of us, and he distinguished between (ordinary) Muslims and radical Muslims. He also picked up on Ted Cruz’ point that we can legally suspend visas from countries with violence (a non-religious criterion). These kinds of things will keep moderate and libertarian Republicans on the reservation and appeal to independent voters.

Trump (and also Hillary) will determine whether Johnson rises. Trump can cut off the rise by being lawful while bring tough.

May take some of the more addled voters away from Hillary.

I got an email from the Libertarian Party yesterday with their response to the Orlando attack. Another example of their incongruous mixture of left and right. It's on their website now, so I think I'll post it as a new thread.

It’s all about him and self-aggrandizing. He will help the person win who should be in prison. F U Gary Johnson.

“Johnson rising?”

Isn’t this the knucklehead that said on Bret Beir’s interview that if he was elected President that he would not smoke mary-jo-wanna in the White House? I couldn’t believe I was hearing that. HELP LORD, we need it.

I am FULLY aware of what he “stands for” and, despite misgivings about some of his positions, will be voting happily for him in November, as he is at least better (and far so, IMO) than the two psychopaths heading the major parties.
