I’ve got a Mossberg Maverick, dirt cheap from Walmart a few years ago and couldn’t pass it up. Put an ATI top folding stock on it (it has a trigger guard safety) and saddle for extra shells. Fits nicely in a Prince double racket carrying case.
A feature I like on it is the `second safety’ on the left side of the gun, behind the trigger guard & under the serial number, that you have to push to rack the slide.
Someone who doesn’t know about it, and maybe shouldn’t be using it, won’t be able to chamber a shell.
Mine’s a 500. Maybe that’s where they got the price from, lol. It was $517 at WM when it wasn’t on sale.
Some tell me to buy 00; friend of mine likes 3 or 4. I’ve only got birdshot for it. I understand that’s not the best for protection but it’s what they had at the time.
