Diet
The type of food eaten by alligators depends upon their age and size. When young, alligators eat fish, insects, snails, crustaceans, and worms. As they mature, progressively larger prey is taken, including larger fish such as gar, turtles, and various mammals, particularly coypu and muskrat,[11] as well as birds, deer, and other reptiles.[22][23] Their stomachs also often contain gizzard stones. They will even consume carrion if they are sufficiently hungry. In some cases, larger alligators are known to ambush dogs, Florida panthers and black bears, making it the apex predator throughout its distribution. In this role as a top predator, it may determine the abundance of prey species, including turtles and coypu.[24][25] As humans encroach into their habitat, attacks are few but not unknown. Alligators, unlike the large crocodiles, do not immediately regard a human upon encounter as prey, but may still attack in self-defense if provoked.

Oh my heart aches for the parents...

They had been there for several days. They had walked that area.....People do not have enough respect for nature.

I grew up in Colorado. In the mountains there are dangerous places to be. My parents taught me to respect and veer be alert for any danger.....many of which were deadly. If you want to tell me the parents were naive and didn’t understand etc etc all I can say is IT IS THE 21ST CENTURY

How do you know this family is going to sue Disney? I wouldn’t, would you?

Not everybody is money grubbing, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, until proven otherwise.

I didn’t say that the no swimming signs were for critter protection. All I said was that the toddler was several feet into the water splashing with signs posted.

Let us assume that a gator did not snag the child. Let us assume that the child cut his foot and the water had some nasty bacteria in it.....the child catches the bacteria, gets horribly sick, and dies. My reaction would again be the same

No swimming signs are posted for a reason....ignore at your own peril

its to unreal to imagine...did you read this paragraph?

“The boy’s family was at movie night outdoors at the Grand Floridian resort when around 9 p.m. the boy waded into about a foot of water in a lagoon, authorities have said. Witnesses, including the boy’s horrified parents, tried to save him. His father jumped in and tried to pry the gator’s mouth open. His mother jumped in, too.”

the parents will have that image in their mind forever...how do you go on?

Judge was explaining the legal responsibility of Disney. Family will become VERY wealthy with insurance settlement. That conversation was before the announcement

They won’t have to sue. Disney will offer a very large settlement.

“Some people said a ‘No Swimming’ sign is hardly sufficient if alligators could be lurking.”

Perhaps we should just fill the entire thing in with concrete.

Yes and no $$$ can erase that.
Hopefully the $$ will allow them to do the best for the other child and maybe make room for another.

I don’t know. They will be hurting for the rest of their lives, unable to forget the horrow that their poor baby suffered during the last minutes of his life. God help them.

Played a lot of golf when I lived in Louisiana. Green on third hole of one course had a lot of small holes on it, other than the cup. If one happened to swallow your ball, you just let it be and got out a new one as all holes were inhabited by snakes. Fairway on #5 was between two bayous. Gators frequently walked across the fairway from one side to another. Never bothered the locals. They even had names for a few of them. After a year or so I finally got used to their presence.
