So, is this just a vague and dishonest way of saying "a provision banning private sales of firearms without a background check". Which would go a long way to eliminating private sales.
They passed a similar law requiring background checks on gun “transfers” here in Washington State. In spite of the fact that just in order to GO to the gun shows to buy a gun you had to have a background check.
And while these stupid gun laws sound good to the idiot liberals - they aren’t good. What got sold to the voters as “Don’t let bad guys buy guns” is really a 19 PAGE long long that details who can and can’t TRANSFER a gun. So it isn’t just buying. Legally, my wife can borrow one of my guns to shoot only if we are at a “registered” shooting range. My 22 year-old son can’t use one of my guns!
Everyone must really be obeying the law though - it hasn’t been used once to convict anybody in the year or two it has been around.
However, I do know some gunsmiths that are wary of new customers. Worried they might be plants that will turn them in if they don’t do the $25 background check (both ways??) when the person “transfers” the gun to them to get worked on, and then “transfered” back to the owner. That part was not spelled out in the law. (The part about the wife borrowing the gun is spelled out. It also says how if I go out of town for the week, I can not leave her one of my firearms for protection.)
