Police found and destroyed a suspected pipe bomb in Geelong on Friday morning.
Streets were closed after police recovered what they suspected was a pipe bomb from a residence in Norlane, reported 7News.
The device was found inside a car on the corner of Robin Avenue and Swallow Crescent, where police were carrying out a search warrant at about 10am this morning.

pipe bong ?
I wonder if it might have been intended for a specific person.
Of course I have a Nephew who used to make pipe bombs and go down to the lake and set them off. One day the sheriff’s deputy happened to be driving by.
My Nephew at first tried to tell him it was just fireworks. The deuputy informed him that it wasn’t no cherry bomb.
My Nephew then did the only smart thing he did that day and told the truth. The deputy let him go but I think he was close to going to jail.
Was there a COEXIST bumper sticker on the car?

I didn’t want to post this in my original message before I had time to make sure of the details but four Churches have been the victims of arson attacks in the Geelong area in recent months. So has one Mosque (but as that was a former Christian Church that had been converted but still looked like a Church, police suspect the arsonist may have thought it was a fifth Church).
I hope to God that this has nothing to do with terrorism, but it’s certainly something that comes into my mind.
I grew up in Geelong - went to school quite near where this happened - it’s a beautiful city, but vulnerable like any other.
Further checking - two of the burned Churches I just referred to were specifically in the suburb of Norlane where this bomb was found. Norlane only has a population of 8,000 people in two square miles. It’s not a big place.
I’ve traveled all over this wonderful blue globe, but have never visited Australia. It’s on my “Bucket List”.
Thanks for all your posts. I do read them.
Painters & Dockers? Carlton Crew? Melbourne ethnic mob?
Not that I have any sort of intimate knowledge of the Melbourne underworld, but my impression is those particular groups are largely in the past following the gangland war. Now we’re hearing about the Apex Gang - Sudanese, originally based out of Dandenong - and various Middle Eastern gangs largely out of the Western suburbs.
