Well, there were thunderstorms earlier in the week, but the Dog Head fire is still under investigation as to the cause. More than likely, it's some idiot who did something stupid rather than intentionally set.
The thing about the Dog Head fire is that there's nothing to stop it going east. Once it breaks out of the forested land, it gets into a lot of scrub, but there are no breaks. It's on the eastern slope of the Manzano Mountains ESE of Albuquerque, and if it breaks out of the trees and heads down out of the mountains, from there, it's open flat desert full of scrub well into Texas. With the winds we get here, it could carry a long ways east.
