At least 18 people have been shot so far this weekend and six of those victims are dead.
One of the shootings happened in the University Village neighborhood early Saturday morning.
Two security guards were called to a large outdoor party at a housing complex in the 1300 block of West Hastings. Someone started shooting and a 24-year-old man was shot in the back and killed. The two security guards were wounded.

This was in Heinlein’s TUNNEL IN THE SKY, in which they were transported to parts unknown with equipment of their own choice to parts unknown, as the “final exam” of their high school survival course. ( Our hero came with only a knife, on the advice of his older sister, who had passed the course. )
Our hero, the narrator, comes shortly upon the body of a classmate next to his “THUNDERBOLT 360”, or whatever, killed by some unknown agent. Uncle Bob regales us thereupon with a lecture about laying low.
But here in the Western ‘burbs, these issues are academic. It could be the 1950’s here in certain respects, if you know what I mean, and I think you do.

Chicago’s gang violence is usually quite bloody during summer weekends, but this year’s Mother’s Day weekend was particularly bloody with 43 wounded and 9 killed between Friday afternoon and Sunday night.
Not sure if this was the standing record or not.
How is this news? It is business as usual.
Wow, they’re batting .333 this week, a dramatic improvement.
