Anti-Trump delegates raising money for staff and a legal defense fund

Supporters of a growing anti-Donald Trump movement announced plans Sunday to raise money for staff and a possible legal defense fund as they asked new recruits to help spread the word with less than a month until the Republican National Convention.

Having started with just a few dozen delegates, organizers also said Sunday that they now count several hundred delegates and alternates as part of their campaign.

"As we carefully consider not only the presidential nominee but the rules of the convention, the platform of the Republican Party and the vice presidential nominee, remember that this is true reality TV – it is not entertainment," Regina Thomson, co-founder of the group now calling itself "Free the Delegates," said Sunday night.

The group is led by convention delegates seeking to block Trump at the GOP convention next month in Cleveland by changing party rules so that they can vote however they want -- instead of in line with the results of state caucuses and primaries. It is quickly emerging as the most organized effort to stop Trump and coincides with his declining poll numbers.

"Unruh and other delegates were pleased to hear House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) tell NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday that it's "not my place to decide" whether delegates should be unbound at the convention.

"It is not my job to tell delegates what to do, what not to do, or to weigh in on things like that. They write the rules. They make their decisions," Ryan told NBC.

"Paul Ryan signed our permission slip," Unruh said in response.

Talmage Pearce, a GOP delegate from Arizona's Fifth Congressional District, said that Ryan "spoke wisely and empathetically" in his interview."

Self-described conservatives are working to overturn the will of the voters and deny Trump the nomination.

They seem to support Speaker Ryan.

Article doesn’t say if these delegates are pledged to Trump or some other candidate.

“Growing?” Got any numbers to back that assertion up there, Mr. Media?

Will this be the first time EVER that a party convention turns into a funeral??

Obviously the Republican party is DEAD.

definition:

delegate: A person sent or authorized to represent others, in particular an elected representative sent to sent to a conference

If they can't function as delegates, they should stay home and let an alternate take the place. Can someone explain to me if there's a reason they, Ryan, and any other collaborator aren't guilty of fraud with these maneuvers?

> legal defense fund

are they conspiring to commit some crimes that need a legal defense?

They must really hate the republican party. they could let the republican voters’ choice stand and be quiet. Or even come out for Hillary. But attacking the republicans for nominating the people’s choice seems like they have to have a goal of destroying the party.

Article doesn’t say if these delegates are pledged to Trump or some other candidate.

That is the central flaw of the article. Just as the media combine legal and illegal immigration into the category of "immigration", and they combine gun crimes with self-defense into the category of "gun violence", they are conflating two unlike groups of delegates in this article. Liberals lie.

Looks like the Romney, Ryan and Cruz plan for a divisive convention is taking shape.

This is ‘push reporting’, the partner of push polling. Intended to provoke Trump and/or supporters into doing something really stupid. They got nothin’, just bluff.

Cruz. From the article -

“Mr. Priebus needs to understand that leadership has not answered the call of the most important people in the Republican Party and that’s the conservatives. We have always been there, we’ve endured a lot of one-way loyalty,” said Chris Eckstrom, a Dallas-based businessman and founder of Courageous Conservative PAC, an organization that once supported Cruz’s campaign but is now backing the new movement.

According to the most optimistic estimates this group of delegates amounts to 30. Trump won by around 300 more than he needed, even assuming that all 30 are pledged Trump delegates (which I seriously doubt), it wouldn’t make a dent in his chances. The only thing this group is going to accomplish is giving the liberal media a constant stream of stories about the supposed “division” in the Republican ranks and gin up resentment. I’ve got so a barely pay attention to these types of stories anymore, they are irrelevant.

Ted Cruz is pushing for a convention revolt. I can’t wait to vote for his primary opponent next year.

Please, pay attention. Understand what these self described “conservatives” are doing. Understand how they are working with the media to sabotage Trump and help elect Clinton.

I want to say that one of the individuals mentioned here was - or is - a W. Mitt Romney operative, but I may be confusing him with someone else.

Nonetheless, Romney is a s**t-stirring GOP éminence grise that, like Grover Norquist, would do less damage to the rest of us if he were compelled to officially become a Democrat. Paul Ryan may be a self-actualizing hemorrhoid now, but it took creeps like Mitt and Grover to get him where he is today.

Chris Eckstrom needs to understand that a lot of Conservatives voted for Trump, not Cruz. He does not speak for most Conservatives.
