David Beckham endorsed the Remain campaign today, telling voters to support staying in the EU 'for our children'.

The England footballing hero said Britain should be facing the challenges of the world together with its allies.

Beckham recalled how he and other British-born players at Manchester United were good enough to be successful alone but were a 'better and more successful team' because of European additions such as Eric Cantona, Roy Keane and Peter Schmeichel.

So we all need pay heed when a jock shares his wisdom. Jocks could not manage Student Council in High School. Stick with dribbling or whatever soccer nerds do. Real men don’t eat quiche, or play soccer.

IIRC Diego Garcia was leased as part of the WW2 lend-lease deal.

I believe the lease on DG is up and is being renegotiated even as we speak.

David Beckham should be telling voters to support leaving the EU 'for our children'.

This whole issue is difficult to comprehend because we have a socialist country wanting to leave another bunch of godless socialists.

For the children Britain should exit the EU, and start the long trek out of socialism into free enterprise and economic freedom. Why would the people of Great Britain want to listen to the President of the United States, and stay shackled?

Regardless of the results of the Brexit referendum, when will Great Britain fully adopt Sharia Law?

The EU can’t carry on without the UK buying their imports. The pressure to continue free trade will be enormous from both sides.

This is not to say that the unelected European Commission won’t try to cut trade - and perhaps blockade Gibraltar - anyway, just to punish everyone who defies their totalitarian vision.

But that would just hasten the breakup of the rest of the EU.

In the meantime China and India are extremely willing to pick up any slack in trade.

It’s all scripted. The “stay” will win by 1/2%, or what ever they need to make sure it’s outside the margin of an insurgent attempt of ballot box stuffing, and they’ll say it’s time to work to heal a “divided” country...blah, blah, blah... and move on.

While the EU would be badly hit, it can carry on -- the EU buys half of Britain’s exports whereas the UK accounts for little over 10 per cent of exports from the rest of the EU, so the UK would be in a weak position to negotiate access on its terms.

half of the EU’s trade surplus with the UK is accounted for by just two memberstates: Germany and the Netherlands. Most EU memberstates do not run substantial trade surpluses with the UK, and some run deficits with it. Any agreement would require the assent of the remaining 27 members, some of whom buy more from Britain than they sell to it.

Moreover, the UK’s access to non-EU markets is to a great degree determined by its membership of the EU, something that will only become more pronounced if, as looks likely, multilateral trade continues to recede in favour of bilateral and preferential trade agreements. The UK accounts for around 4 per cent of global exports of goods and services, a proportion that is falling steadily as emerging markets become increasingly integrated into the global economy. On its own, the UK would have much less bargaining power than the EU.

The UK primarily exports financial services -- and that would be eagerly grabbed by Frankfurt or Paris

In terms of manufacturing, the UK assembles cars that are then destined to the continent and quite often the parts come from the continent. LEaving the EU means that they may be cut off from the europe wide suppy chain.

Spain would blockade Gibraltar if it weren't compelled to do so by the EU

the British people have to much of an ingrained “subject” mentality to go against the wishes of authority

Even if that were true (which it isn't), what 'authority' did you have in mind? However you define it, 'authority' in the UK is as deeply split on this issue as the rest of the country. Witness a referendum campaign which has often seemed like an internal family feud between members of the ruling party.
