The hacker leaking the documents has said he’s Romanian and used Russian metadata to create a false trail.
Its easier for the DNC, Clinton campaign and their allies in the media to blame the Russians. Make them the bad guys because nobody knows anything about Romania; its not a familiar country to most people and therefore not useful to cast as the culprit.
