My non-diesel gets about 32mpg on the highway, if I lay off the turbo.
That proves my point, thanks. You’re getting 40%+ less fuel mileage and you’re saving about 20 cents a gallon at the most right now.
Diesels last a lot longer than gasoline engines, which also makes them more economical. They are also more fun to drive with all the extra torque. Well, they were before this fiasco, but if you reprogram it, you can make it even better.
Alas, the VW TDIs do have problems in recent years with fuel pumps and dpf issues, but if you live in a free state without any Nazi emission laws, you can get rid of the dpf and there are some fixes to at least mitigate the fuel pump issues.
