That’s the song I was thinking of, thank you.

This is consistent with the screwed up Supreme Court decisions today. Of course they copied it. It’s virtually identical. Unreal.

I vote for also banning, ‘Dream On’ by Aerosmith and, ‘The Pina Colada Song’, too!
However, NO Van Halen songs should EVER be banned, and every angst-riddled teenager MUST listen to, ‘Love Hurts’ by Nazareth on a daily basis.
The world would be a much better place, all the way around! :)

Yes they did.

Spirit was not the first musical act to play a descending chromatic line from A down to F with the harmony looking like a pretty standard minor key progression.
The key of Am is established in the first measure with the tonic and the (altered) dominant being played.
At least that’s what my ear tells me.

Why would this go to court after 40 years?

I sure miss Milli Vanilli...
LOL! Had not heard them for at least 20 yrs. until walking through a Kmart store one day when they played on the intercom (which seemed strangely appropriate).

While led Zeppelin certainly “borrowed” more than a few songs, this is not one of them. The spirit song has not melody. Only the first 2 chords are played exactly the same. Many songs revolve around a single chord with a descending bass line, both in minor and major keys. This case was a loser from the start. You can only copywrite melody and lyric. Pop and rock is basically the same 20 odd chords, with various different melodies and lyrics to those same chords.

I listened to both intros to each sone, and they dont even remotely sound alike. Seemed obvious to me...not the same. But others say they hear it. Go figure.
