What is up with the town of Jersey Shore, PA?

The pound has dropped 10 cents. OH HEAVENS THE SKY IS FALLING!!!
I can explain that. Sort of.
Apparently some brothers set up this town under a different name, and developed a rivalry of sorts with the town on the other side of the river. The “other” town often started referring to the brothers’ as the “Jersey” shore of the river since they were from Jersey.
My husband is from the area. In fact, his best friend is from the town.
I will also note that my husband says lots of people up in his area ran to the Jersey Shore every year for their beach vacation.
