A Born-Again Donald Trump? Believe It, Evangelical Leader Says
The New York Times ^ | 6/25/16 | TRIP GABRIEL and MICHAEL LUO

Posted on 06/25/2016 7:32:38 PM PDT by Faith Presses On

Has Donald J. Trump become a born-again Christian?

That is the suggestion of James C. Dobson, one of America’s leading evangelicals, who said Mr. Trump had recently come “to accept a relationship with Christ” and was now “a baby Christian.”

Dr. Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family and one of the country’s most prominent social conservatives, gave his account at a meeting Mr. Trump had in New York on Tuesday with hundreds of Christian conservatives.

In an interview recorded at the event by a Pennsylvania pastor, the Rev. Michael Anthony, Dr. Dobson said he knew the person who had led Mr. Trump to Christ, though he did not name him.

“I don’t know when it was, but it has not been long,” Dr. Dobson said. “I believe he really made a commitment, but he’s a baby Christian.”

Mr. Anthony posted the interview to his blog on Friday. Dr. Dobson could not be reached on Saturday, and Hope Hicks, the Trump campaign spokeswoman, did not respond Saturday to a request for details.

...

In his interview, Dr. Dobson conceded that Mr. Trump did not exactly fit the typical mold of an evangelical.

“He used the word ‘hell’ four or five times,” he said. “He doesn’t know our language.” He added that Mr. Trump “refers a lot to religion and not much to faith and belief.”

For evangelicals, the heart of Christianity is a faith-based dependence on God. They often contrast this with what they characterize as merely “religion,” which they view as more rules and rituals-based.

Sorry, I can be more clear.

My post was: As it is today, Trump is just not a good fit with “born-again, evangelical Christian.”

You replied: “I don’t know what you mean by “fit.” I think a sinner and the Savior make a perfect fit.”

We are all sinners. Do you think we all, every human being, therefore, fit with “born-again, evangelical Christian?”

Count me as one who has also been praying for Mr. Trump’s salvation since i heard him answer “no,” he’d never asked God for forgiveness before. Now, i wasn’t going to write this because it sounds so hokey, even after reading your reply. Then the very next reply was that photo of Trump with the other guy (Falwell?), the guy from Trinity, and I just have to say this.

Like most people, i dream sometimes but i usually don’t remember what they’re about unless i happen to wake up during the dream. In the past few months I’ve had a few dreams with Mr Trump in them, but I’ve never been able to remember any details. Mr. Trump’s personality in these dreams was different than what I’ve seen on TV all these months; it’s something I don’t understand and can’t explain, other than he was much kinder and gentler than what I’ve seen before.

But get this: There is always a spiritual theme to the dreams, and there is a man with him who is a spiritual person, but this man’s exact identity is always clouded because he’s always fuzzy w/o a distinctive face or anything. For some reason, I had a sense that it was the Trinity Univ. guy, and I’ve even thought about sending him a letter telling him about this dream and that I thought it meant God was going to use him or someone else to lead Mr. Trump to Christ so please pray for guidance.

I’ve never sent this letter because I always talked myself out of it, rationalizing that I wasn’t even 100% sure who the spiritual-minded man in my dream WAS, and besides, I don’t tend to believe in this kind of stuff.

When I saw the photo, just now, i had one of those déjà vu experiences and that’s the only reason i’m writing this. That’s him. The man in that photo IS the one who’s been in the dreams. I don’t know why and I’ll probably never know why, but please double up your prayers. And don’t be looking for me to ever make a reply like this again because it ‘just ain’t me.’

That’s someone else. What do you think a Christian acts like?

Jesus Christ.

But that's not what the rest of the world thinks of Christians.

I remember my non-Christian days well enough and I know what I used to think of Christians.

The stereotype is not complimentary.

Trump may not be a good *fit* with the stereotypical Evangelical born-again Christian but you know what?

That’s not going to make much difference with true believers and probably most of the people in general.

If by “born-again, evangelical Christian” you mean churchianty or what is presented on TV as the artificial little bubble world that so many *Christians* are portrayed as living in, no, he would not be a good fit.

But what does that matter?

Do you even know what is required to be a Christian?

John 6:28-29
Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?
Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

1 John 3:21-23
Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.
And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.

James 1:27
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

I am cautious too, been around too many “thus sayeth the Lords”.

Then try this: number 6

In conclusion let us summarize this grand key, these “Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet”, for our salvation depends on them.

1. The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.
2. The living prophet is more vital to us than the standard works.
3. The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet.
4. The prophet will never lead the church astray.
5. The prophet is not required to have any particular earthly training or credentials to speak on any subject or act on any matter at any time.
6. The prophet does not have to say “Thus Saith the Lord,” to give us scripture.
7. The prophet tells us what we need to know, not always what we want to know.
8. The prophet is not limited by men’s reasoning.
9. The prophet can receive revelation on any matter, temporal or spiritual.
10. The prophet may advise on civic matters.
11. The two groups who have the greatest difficulty in following the prophet are the proud who are learned and the proud who are rich.
12. The prophet will not necessarily be popular with the world or the worldly.
13. The prophet and his counselors make up the First Presidency—the highest quorum in the Church.
14. The prophet and the presidency—the living prophet and the First Presidency—follow them and be blessed—reject them and suffer.

I testify that these fourteen fundamentals in following the living prophet are true. If we want to know how well we stand with the Lord then let us ask ourselves how well we stand with His mortal captain—how close do our lives harmonize with the Lord’s anointed—the living Prophet—President of the Church, and with the Quorum of the First Presidency.

Ezra Taft Benson

>>James Dobson is not a pastor.

More of an icon than a pastor.

It's notable how folks in the local religious community will say "well, we checked it out with Focus on the Family" - as if that somehow legitimizes their opinions and modes of thinking.

People should be thinking for themselves - not parroting Dobson or any other mosquitoe who has their proboscis firmly implanted in the temple steps.

>>in favor of Crazy McQueeg in the last presidential election.

Uhuh.

Your search - "Virginia act" "religious freedom" "thomas jefferson" site:www.focusonthefamily.com- did not match any documents.

Suggestions:

  • Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
  • Try different keywords.
  • Try more general keywords.
  • Try fewer keywords.

Not very healthy for your host organism.

Mark 4:3-9

3 "Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times."

9 Then Jesus said, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

We'll see.

This makes our religious leaders look like complete fools. Seriously. Trump has no idea that a playboy hanging on his wall of achievements lacks class.
I am guessing that the folks getting their picture taken do. It realize it is behind them.

The only true living "prophet" is Jesus the Messiah. I listen to Him, and He will never lead me astray. He speaks to me through the Bible, His infallable Word.

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, Whom He appointed heir of all things, and through Whom also He made the universe. Heb 1:1-2
