I’m 1/16th Creek like in Trail of Tears survivor’s descendant. Could have gotten a small cash settlement in 1973 but never bothered. Have a few souvenirs & paintings I will pass on to the Creek Nation Museum someday.
Have not visited Oklahoma in decades. My cousins’ father was Cherokee so they called themselves “Cherocreeks’.
Cherokee genealogists have traced Lizzie Warren’s ancestry back to the War of 1812. Zero, zip, nada Indian blood. As an Okie City native she played on the old myth that every white in Oklahoma has some Indian ancestry. Not so.
