Apparently someone on base saw personnel with “long guns” and in panic, reported it...the guns were part of drill.

OK, so seeing someone with a firearm on a military base is enough to cause a panic? What would they do if they had to visit Camp Pendleton? Or drive through Pennsylvania during hunting season?

Carrying a personal gun on base against orders is a great way to find yourself in Leavenworth.

I hated not being armed when living on base, but the consequences of being caught carrying an authorized weapon were unthinkable.

Joint Base Andrews was locked down just after 9 a.m. after someone mistook an active shooter drill for the real thing, senior law enforcement officials told NBC News. All personnel were directed to shelter in place.

Officials said first responders received reports of an "real-world active shooter situation" around the same time the base was conducting an active shooter exercise.
