DEVELOPING: Commandos backed by armored vehicles stormed a upscale restaurant in the Bangladesh's capital diplomatic zone early Saturday, hoping to free dozens of hostages held by Islamist militants following an hours-long standoff.
Approximately two hours after the operation began, the sound of two big explosions were heard inside the Dhaka restaurant and a police official told the Associated Press that five bodies were seen lying in pools of blood.
In Tokyo, Japan's Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Koichi Hagiuda, citing Dhaka police, said 12 people had been rescued, including two foreigners.

More “radical extremism” that, our president would say, “has nothing to do with Islam.” I sure get confused trying to figure out what this “radical extremism” is, since it has nothing to do with Islam, even though the extremists use Islamic slogans. But we have it on good authority that Islam is “the religion of peace” so I guess the joke is on the extremists who commit acts of violence, all the while speaking slogans from “the religion of peace.” /sarcasm

On an international news forum I frequent, a poster from Bangladesh’s capital says the news is reporting at least 22 hostages killed though the official government news agency is reporting 14 hostages rescued and six ISIS terrorists killed.
I think Im going to have to presume the first report is accurate, since I just can’t fathom how 150+ million human beings can live in a nation the size of Arkansas and there not be dozens killed or wounded from a single gunshot going off. Bangladesh’s population density has got to be the world’s highest... They’re packed in three deep over there.

There was way too much calm before the “storm”. Waiting three hours in Orlando and ten hours in Bangladesh did not save any lives.
When seconds count, the authorities dither for hours.
