In “use of force continuum” training a punch to the head is considered lethal force.
If the bad guy takes it to that level you may employ whatever force is necessary to end the threat.
It is not very smart to rush up to a guys window and punch him in the head. More then one persons has been killed by punch on the head.

So basically, you’re supposed to let a guy punch you in the head as many times as he wants. You can’t use a gun to defend yourself.
If he’s punching you while you’re sitting in your car, the most you can do is try to close the window and drive off.

But whose road rage? The shooter, or the guy who charged the car and started punching through the window? And what is the next stage after rage?
This looks like one of those situations where we are not going to know what actually happened from any early news reports. This needs to be investigated and all of the witnesses interviewed. That said, in New York use of lethal force in self defense is normally only allowed if you are in reasonable fear for your life and retreat is not an option. (Exception for your home where you do not have to retreat in the face of an attack.)

Would this be front-page news if he had been shot by another black? It wouldn’t even make a byline in the metro section. I just wish that blacks would wake up and realize they’re being played for fools by the leftist establishment.
Looks to me like the off-duty cop did what I would do in that same situation. Nothing wrong at all.
I’ll just note that some cops exhibit poor but aggressiving driving in their cop cars while on duty.
More than one pavement ape has sucker punched victims that died from it.

My default position is to be highly suspicious when a cop kills a citizen, but in this case there appear to be more than enough mitigating factors to perceive it as prima facie legitimate.
I will, however, note that a regular citizen in NYC wouldn’t have the option of using a firearm in self defense.
